A woman died today after jumping into a river to save her dog in north Wales.
The woman entered the Tryweryn River in Bala after her golden retriever went into the water. The woman, whose age and identity has not yet been released, got into difficulties and a man, believed to be her partner, jumped in to rescue her.
Both the man and woman were unable to get out and a passer-by raised the alarm and tried to rescue them with a makeshift rope.
They were eventually pulled from the water by the emergency services. The woman was airlifted to Glan Clwyd Hospital by police helicopter but was later pronounced dead.
