A woman was killed this morning when her car collided with a truck in Co Kilkenny.
The collision occurred on the main Kilkenny-to-Waterford road(N9) at Barretstown, Knocktopher at about 6.45am. A Garda spokesman said the woman was a 31-year-old non-Irish national.
The driver of the truck was hospitalised, but his injuries are not believed to be serious. He was taken to St Luke's hospital.
The woman's body was removed to the same hospital.
Gardaí at Thomastown are investigating, and the scene is to be examined by investigators, a Garda spokesman said.
A total of 266 people have died on the State's roads to date this year in 242 crashes. Of those, 106, or nearly 40 per cent, of those killed were drivers. There were 60 pedestrians killed, 57 passengers, 13 cyclists, 28 motorcyclists and two pillion passengers, according to Garda figures.
