A woman who used heroin because methadone was not available was found dead in bed by a friend some hours later, the Dublin Coroner's Court has been told. Ms Catherine Carlyle (20), of William Place, Dorset Street, was found dead at St Donagh's Road, Donaghmede, on September 12th, 1996. Mr Brendan McMahon said he had bought a quarter-gram of heroin with Ms Carlyle, as no methadone was available. They "shot up" using separate needles in his home at Donaghmede, lay on the bed and fell asleep. When he woke at 6 a.m. he could not wake Ms Carlyle.

The post-mortem report showed Ms Carlyle positive for opiates, methadone and sedatives. A verdict of death by misadventure was recorded by the Coroner, Dr Brian Farrell.
