Woman fails to block pub licence

A black woman yesterday failed in her second attempt to block the renewal of a pub's licence over allegations of racism

A black woman yesterday failed in her second attempt to block the renewal of a pub's licence over allegations of racism. Ms Teresa-Tina Lynch (35) from Ballymun last year set a legal precedent when she successfully objected to the renewal of the licence for the Tara Tavern in Finglas, Dublin.

The pub continued trading while an appeal was lodged and later the High Court quashed the decision because the owner had not been represented at the district court hearing.

Yesterday, Ms Lynch was back in the Dublin District Court objecting to the licence again in relation to the same incident for which she brought the objection last year.

Judge Timothy Lucey said he was not satisfied there was a pattern of behaviour which went to the character of the licensee. He dismissed the objection and granted the licence.
