Woman found 'safe and well' on Galtees

A mother (46) of three who has been missing on the Galtee mountains since yesterday has been found safe and well.

A mother (46) of three who has been missing on the Galtee mountains since yesterday has been found safe and well.

Ms Rita Hickey, of Oola, Co Limerick, walked down from the south side of the mountain at about 11.20 a.m. today - 18 hours after she was reported missing.

A mountain rescue spokesman told ireland.comshe is well and healthy despite spending the night alone in the mountains. He said she walked down a forest trail and met the search party.

The alarm was first raised yesterday by a companion who became separated from the woman while out walking in the mountains.

South East Mountain Rescue and Dromore Cliff Rescue were involved in the search, which was co-ordinated by Tipperary gardaí.

The Search and Rescue Helicopter, based in Waterford, joined the search this morning and was about to wind down when the woman turned up. She is now on her way home to Limerick.
