A third person has been arrested as part of an investigation into the death of a man in Waterford city earlier this week.
A woman (38) was arrested in the city earlier today and is currenty being held at Waterford Garda station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1884.
Gardaí in Waterford are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the body of Joe O’Brien (60) at an apartment block off William Street on Monday evening.
A postmortem showed Mr O'Brien died from head injuries.
The deceased lived nearby to the apartment block, at a social housing scheme in Spring Garden Alley.
It is believed Mr O’Brien visited the ground floor apartment at the Scotch Marsh House development off Scotch Quay and William Street on Monday night.
A 999 call was made to Waterford Garda station at about 9.50pm, when a caller said an incident had occurred in the apartment.
Gardaí and ambulance crew arrived at the scene, and found Mr O’Brien in an “unresponsive” state with head injuries. A doctor from the Caredoc after-hours service pronounced Mr O’Brien dead at the scene.
Two other individuals - a 47-year-old man amd a 39-year-old women - have been charged in connection with the killing.
