A woman was injured when she was struck by a plastic bottle during angry clashes between around 30 Celtic and Rangers fans in Derry last night.

The innocent bystander was taken to hospital after receiving a gash to her head when she was caught up in the fighting in the Ferryquay Gate area of the city.

A young man also received cuts to his face.

The PSNI inspector condemned the trouble which broke out after the Old Firm derby in Glasgow.

Inspector Rob Flood said: "It was the result of two football factions trying to get at each other that this innocent lady was hurt."

The fights followed the 1-0 win by Celtic which enabled them to close the gap with Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premier League.
