A woman in her eighties has died today in a house fire in Co Cork.
The fire broke out in a house in Buttevant at about 6.45 a.m. and was fought by local fire brigade units and members of the Garda. Cork County Councils's chief fire officer Gerard Malone said the fire was well underway by the time the fire brigade arrived on the scene. An investigation is underway into the cause of the fire.
The woman's body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem will be carried out.
No one else was in the house, and foul play is not suspected, gardaí said.
