A young woman was injured in a shooting incident in Cork city yesterday evening.

A young woman was injured in a shooting incident in Cork city yesterday evening.

The incident happened at about 6.30pm when a woman in her 20s was shot in the leg during an altercation on Kilmore Road in Knocknaheeny.

She was taken to the Mercy University Hospital and later transferred to Cork University Hospital but her injuries are not life-threatening.

Gardaí carried out a search of a house in the Kilmore Road and recovered a pellet gun.

The gun will be forensically examined today and gardaí hope to take a formal statement from the injured woman later today.
