A woman has been killed and a man has been seriously injured in a three car crash on the main Cork to Bandon Road at around 6pm…

A woman has been killed and a man has been seriously injured in a three car crash on the main Cork to Bandon Road at around 6pm this evening.

The woman, who was in her 60s, was a front seat passenger in a car travelling towards Cork when it collided head-on with another car near a bad bend at Curranure on the N71 between Bandon and Innishannon at around 6pm.

The driver of the car, a man in his 60s, was taken by ambulance to Cork University Hospital (CUH) with injuries described as serious.

The driver and sole occupant of the second car was also taken to CUH with serious injuries.

A third car was also involved in the crash. The driver of this car did not require hospital treatment.

The road is closed and diversions are in place.

Gardaí have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the crash or who travelled from Bandon to Innishannon at around 6pm today to contact them at Bandon Garda Station on 023-8852200.
