A woman who claimed she had been hit on the head by a flying shoe during bar room celebrations following the Ireland versus Egypt World Cup match in June 1990 has lost her £30,000 damages claim for personal injuries.

Mrs Mary Wilson, of Willow Wood Lawn, Hartstown, Dublin, was also ordered by Judge James Carroll to pay the legal costs of Meagher Inns Ltd, owners of the Hartstown Inn, Clonsilla.

Judge Carroll told Mr Hugh Mohan, counsel for the Meagher Group, that Mrs Wilson had failed to prove her case.

A stay on the order for costs was granted to facilitate consideration of an appeal to the High Court.
