Woman rescued by coast guard

A Coast Guard Helicopter rescued a woman from the water near the wooden bridge in Dollymount, north Dublin, last night.

A Coast Guard Helicopter rescued a woman from the water near the wooden bridge in Dollymount, north Dublin, last night.

The coast guard was notified shortly after 6pm by gardaí that it had received reports that a person was missing in the Dollymount area.

A witness who was at the scene saw a person walking in the shallow water near the seafront wall but had lost sight of them in the fading light.

Four search teams were quickly deployed to search the Clontarf Seafront and Dollymount’s Bull Wall.

The woman was spotted in the water by a member of one of the Coast Guard teams between the Clontarf Seafront and Dublin Port.

The garda helicopter which was on scene was able to confirm that a female was in the water up their waist and appeared disoriented.

Coast Guard Rescue Helicopter 116 arrived and was able to lift the casualty out of the water onto the nearby seafront.

The woman, who was in a confused condition, was transported to a nearby ambulance and taken to hospital for treatment.
