A WOMAN was stabbed to death in Dungannon, Co Tyrone, yesterday. The woman was found in Merron Mews at 3.30pm.
A man who had also suffered stab wounds was taken to hospital in a serious condition. Police have appealed for information.
DUP Fermanagh and South Tyrone MLA Lord Morrow condemned the “vicious and brutal incident”. He said: “As a local representative I extend my sympathies to the families involved.
“In recent weeks we have witnessed several stabbings and once again this highlights the need for proper criminal justice policies to be in place.
“Whilst anyone can have access to a knife and it’s impossible to remove every knife from society, we must ensure that our criminal justice system has effective policies to deal with this type of crime.”
Dungannon and South Tyrone Sinn Féin councillor Phelim Gildernew, who also chairs Dungannon District Policing Partnership, said: “Today’s stabbing has brought a deep sense of shock to the local area. My initial thoughts are with the family of the murder victim who I believe is the mother of young children.
“This latest stabbing adds to the high number of knife attacks in the North in recent times. This is a very disturbing trend and urgent action needs to be taken to remove knives from our streets.” – (PA)
