A WOMAN has told the Central Criminal Court she has no doubt whatsoever of her identification of the man accused of raping her at Ballymun in Dublin last year.

The 35-year-old mother of three said she immediately recognised the accused at an identification parade in Santry Garda station on April 29th, 1995, as the man who had raped her some weeks earlier.

She had never seen him before except on the night of the rape, she told Mr Joseph Mathews SC, prosecuting.

The 28-year-old accused man has pleaded not guilty to the rape, oral rape, attempted anal rape and aggravated sexual assault of the woman on waste ground at Ballymun during the early hours of March 18th, 1995.

The woman agreed with Mr Brendan Grogan SC, defending, she told gardai after the attack that it was too dark to get a good look at her attacker's face.

She did not accept that her identification of the accused and the photofit she had helped gardai compile were mistaken.

The trial before Mr Justice Morris at the Central Criminal Court in Dublin continues.
