A woman who lost a baby boy when a safety device on a needle used to take a blood sample from the child's scalp failed yesterday gave birth to a baby girl.
Mrs Bernadette McMahon gave birth in St Finbarr's Hospital, Cork, to a 6lb girl, Cliona Marie, by caesarean section at 11 a.m. - one day after an inquest heard how she and her husband, Tadhg, lost their baby boy, Denis, on August 27th, 1996.
"Both Bernadette and Cliona Marie are flying - Tadhg was present for the birth and they're just thrilled," said their solicitor, Mr Eugene Carey, who represented the couple at Wednesday's hearing.
