A woman who had 30 stun guns disguised as mobile phones will serve 130 hours of community service instead of two years in jail.

Mary Toner (50), Bellurgan, Co Louth, pleaded guilty at Trim Circuit Court to possession of the weapons without a firearms certificate at her home on November 30th, 2009.

The Kelan K95 stun guns had been manufactured in China and made to look like Nokia mobile phones.

The weapons had been detected when Customs officers intercepted a parcel at Portlaoise sorting office.

Judge Ray Fullam told the adjourned hearing that the report indicated that Toner was suitable for community service and he imposed a sentence of 130 hours.
