POSITIVE ACTION, which represents women infected in the blood contamination scandal, said members were very disappointed at the decision by the State to drop charges against Ms Cunningham.
“Some of our members are absolutely devastated,” said chairwoman Detta Warnock.
She added that Positive Action did not see the dropping of the charges as a vindication of Ms Cunningham.
“The Finlay tribunal of inquiry found her culpable. The gardaí held an investigation and the DPP agreed that charges be brought against her. She appealed it to the High Court and lost that appeal and the only thing that has happened now is she has bought time which went in her favour because witnesses have died,” she said.
At this stage Ms Warnock said her members had no choice but to get on with their lives. She said several members of the group had died as a result of their infections and others were sick. “That is just the big cross they have to bear.”
