Washington - Polls show President Clinton is keeping the support of most Americans despite all the allegations against him, but some of his key, long-time supporters, especially women, may be losing faith in him.

There are signs the account by former White House staffer Ms Kathleen Willey - in court testimony and last Sunday on television - that the president chose a moment of emotional distress to make a crude pass has shaken the support of some Clinton loyalists.

Unlike previous accusers, Ms Willey was a Clinton supporter with no political ace to grind. She also initially seemed to have no financial motivation, although this has become less clear with reports that she tried to land a book deal.
