The key themes of the National Women's Strategy
Equalising socio-economic opportunity for women:
This includes reducing the gender pay gap, advancing
women in the labour market and supporting more women as
entrepreneurs.
It also involves better childcare services, a reduction in the number of women experiencing poverty and increased pension cover.
Ensuring the wellbeing of women:
To improve the physical and mental health status of
women; the promotion of healthy lifestyles and increasing the
number of women participating in sport and physical activity; and
the protection of the health and safety of pregnant and
breast-feeding women at work.
Engaging as equal and active citizens:
Increasing the number of women in decision-making
positions in politics and the numbers involved in the arts; using
the media proactively to support gender equality and the
advancement of women; and using multi-lateral aid and development
policy to promote the role of women and gender equality in
developing countries.
