Woods and Clarke track Buick leadersTiger Woods capped his first full day back on the PGA Tour with an eagle to post a second-round 66 and move within two shots of the halfway lead in the Buick Invitational.
The final-hole eagle helped the world number one go four-under on his last five holes yesterday for a 36-hole score of eight-under 136.
"I am swinging well," said Woods, who started the second round on the 10th tee. "At one point I just said to hell with it and let it go towards the end, and I started hitting better shots."
Woods, who missed the first five tournaments of the season after having arthroscopic surgery on his left knee, jumped into contention with the eagle and back-to-back birdies on holes 14 and 15 and is well within striking distance of halfway leaders Marco Dawson and Brad Faxon.
Dawson and Faxon share a one-stroke lead at eight-under 134 over Fred Funk, Jonathan Kaye, Dennis Paulson, Aaron Oberholser and Briny Baird.
Darren Clarke, who aced the par-three third hole in the first round, is just three strokes back of the leaders with a five-under 137.
Phil Mickelson, who apologized to Woods on Wednesday for comments about his Nike equipment, also remains in the hunt, shooting a four-under 68 in the second round for a five-under 137.
