WORLD NUMBER one golfer Tiger Woods is expected to travel to Ireland this summer for the JP McManus Invitational Golf Pro-Am, the man behind the famous charity event said yesterday.
Speaking at a civic reception in Limerick to celebrate his recent Grand National win at Aintree, Mr McManus said he is confident the star will play at the upcoming golf tournament in Adare.
Doubts had been cast over Woods’s participation since revelations about his personal life, however, Mr McManus said yesterday he expects him to travel.
“I told Tiger 18 months ago about the tournament and he said he would be there and I haven’t heard differently so I take it he’ll be there,” said Mr McManus. He also confirmed yesterday that he had met Woods at the recent US Masters in Augusta. More than 100 people attended yesterday’s reception for Mr McManus held at City Hall in Limerick.
The well-known philanthropist has already been awarded the Freedom of Limerick; the highest honour the local authority can bestow on a citizen.
During his address, he said he has made 33 attempts at winning the Grand National and described his first ever success as a wonderful occasion.
Samuel L Jackson, Hugh Grant and Kyle MacLachlan are among the celebrities confirmed to take part in the golf pro-am, which takes place on July 5th and 6th at the Adare Manor Hotel and Golf Resort.
