Work has begun on the new VEC educational campus in Monaghan on the site of the former Army base on the Armagh Road.
The campus will house a new Gaelscoil Ultain, a Coláiste Oiriall secondary school and the Monaghan Institute of Further Education and Training. It will also provide a venue for the Garage Theatre.
The €37 million building contract was won by John Sisk and Sons. It is hoped it will be a construction boon for unemployed local workers.
It is the largest Government spend on education facilities in the State this year.
