A special court is being set up in The Hague to try crimes allegedly committed by Kosovo Liberation Army members during the 1999-2000 conflict that preceded the province’s secession from Serbia, the Dutch government said on Friday.
The EU-funded court, to be known as the Kosovo Relocated Specialist Judicial Institution, will try alleged crimes against ethnic minorities and political opponents under Kosovo law.
In a statement, the Dutch government said witnesses against the fighters, seen by many in Kosovo as freedom fighters, might feel threatened if the trials were not held abroad.
