Leicester hospital sees A&E influx as soccer fans celebrate

A Leicester hospital has seen double the number of patients attending the accident and emergency department overnight after ecstatic fans celebrated Leicester City's Premier League title win.

Leicester Royal Infirmary has asked people who do not need emergency care to call for healthcare advice instead following the influx of people arriving at the hospital for medical assistance.

On Twitter the hospital wrote that it was “feeling the effect” of the team’s celebrations after the Foxes beat Everton at home 3-1 on Saturday.

The tweet said: “ Leic_hospital is feeling the effect of the LCFC game yesterday. If you don’t need to come to A&E please don’t. Call NHS111 for advice/care.”

The hospital said it had seen twice as many patients last night and this morning as it normally would on a Saturday night and Sunday morning, with many suffering alcohol-related injuries.

Bocelli performance

Before the match on Saturday opera singer Andrea Bocelli performed renditions of Nessun Dorma and Time To Say Goodbye at the title party at the King Power Stadium.

As manager Claudio Ranieri led the opera singer and fellow Italian onto the pitch, the crowd erupted.

Following the match victory, which will see the team go down in history, thousands of fans took to the streets of the city.
