Police investigating an assault after a jogger appeared to push a woman into the path of an oncoming bus in London have arrested a man.

The 50-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm at an address in Chelsea, south-west London on Thursday morning.

“Police investigating an assault after a jogger appeared to push a woman into the path of an oncoming bus in Putney have made an arrest,” London police said in a statement. “The man arrested for grievous bodily harm ... has been released under investigation pending further enquiries.”

CCTV footage released earlier this week showed a man apparently barging into the 33-year-old woman on Putney Bridge in south-west London at about 7.40am on May 5th.

He knocked her into the road and the bus driver swerving to avoid her.

Some 15 minutes later, the suspect passed his victim again on the bridge, going the other way, and ignored her when she tried to talk to him, police said.

The arrest came after a public appeal for help in tracing the jogger. Although the incident happened in May, police said they had received a “good response” from the appeal, and said they were still looking for witnesses.
