Former James Bond actor Pierce Brosnan was stopped by US airport security as he tried to board a plane with a knife, it has emerged.

The 62-year-old was stopped by transportation security administration agents with the blade, reportedly a ten-inch hunting knife, in his hand luggage.

The Navan-born actor, who appeared as 007 in four of the secret agent series including GoldenEye and Die Another Day, was allowed to continue his journey through Burlington International Airport in Vermont after the issue was resolved, according to Lieutenant Shawn Burke of the local police department.

In images apparently showing the incident on Sunday, Mr Brosnan is seen removing his belt in the security area and speaking to staff.
