Yahoo! Inc is the world's most trafficked internet destination, according to the Nielsen/NetRatings' December 2001 Global Internet Index.

Based on the December index, Yahoo! is global leader in unique audience, reach, total time spent, visits per person, and page views for home usage for the 19th consecutive month.

The Nielsen//NetRatings Global Internet Index provides the only worldwide measurement of Web audience and usage patterns across 29 countries and covers 91 per cent of the global at home internet audience.

Findings include:

  • Yahoo!'s unique audience increased to more than 133 million consumers in December, which continues to represent more than 50 per cent of the total active at home Internet universe.
  • Yahoo! reaches 52 percent of the world's total at home internet population, five per cent greater than its nearest competitor MSN and 12 per cent more than AOL.
  • Yahoo! consumers around the world spent approximately 1 hour and 3 minutes on Yahoo! during December, while consumers spent only 47 minutes on MSN and 34 minutes on AOL.

Yahoo! also ranked number one according to page views, averaging nine visits and 133 pages per person in December.

The Nielsen/NetRatings Internet audience measurement service collects real-time data from more than 233,000 individuals with access to the internet in 29 countries.

Nielsen/NetRatings currently estimates the at home active Internet universe to be 254 million users.
