Awards in the education category of The Irish Times Living Dublin Awards were announced yesterday in the Mansion House.
The awards, for primary and post-primary level initiatives, were presented by the Lord Mayor Catherine Byrne, Dublin Chamber of Commerce chief executive Gina Quin, and managing editor of The Irish Times Gerry Smyth.
Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa, a primary school based in Killinarden, Tallaght, and the Ballymun Youthreach Community Arts Factory took first place in the primary and post-primary awards respectively.
The staff at Scoil an Chroí Ró Naofa, were awarded for their looking forward programme, which seeks to promote to young children and their parents the benefits of third-level education.
The Ballymun Youthreach Community Arts Factory, which provides an extra dimension to community development practice through the arts in the area, also shared the honours.
Our Lady of Lourdes, Goldenbridge, Inchicore; Zion Parish Primary School, Rathgar; O'Connell's School, North Circular Road, and the Shankill Project were all highly commended for the innovative work they are doing in promoting education in Ireland.
Further awards will be presented at a ceremony next Friday. The awards celebrate groups, individuals and businesses working to improve the quality of life in Dublin city and county. They are run by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce, Dublin City Council and sponsored by The Irish Times.
