A 17-year-old youth arrested for looting during the riots that erupted at last month's "Love Ulster" rally in Dublin appeared at the Children's Court yesterday charged with burglary.
The judge granted legal aid to the youth and directed that copies of any CCTV footage obtained by gardaí in their investigation should be furnished to his lawyers.
Garda Páraic Lynch of Fitzgibbon Street station told Judge John Coughlan that the teenager was arrested at his home on Friday last.
The youth, who is from north inner city Dublin, was then taken to Store Street Garda station and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act for questioning.
He was released four hours later and charged in the presence of his mother. He made no reply after he was cautioned.
He was then released to appear in court yesterday where he was charged with burglary of the Footlocker Shop on O'Connell Street, which was ransacked during the riots on February 25th last.
The teenager, who is unemployed and out of school, was not accompanied to yesterday's proceedings by a parent or guardian.
Garda Lynch applied for the case to be adjourned pending directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions.
There was no objection to bail.
The youth was released to appear again in May.
He was the second juvenile so far to be charged in connection with the riots.
