The National Youth Council of Ireland has called for the urgent introduction of regulations covering the sale of tickets for music events after tickets for an extra Oasis concert were sold only to holders of credit cards.
"The sale of tickets just weeks ago for the first Oasis concerts was a fiasco. The latest decision to sell tickets by credit card only has compounded matters and is blatantly greedy", said Ms Jillian Hassett, president of the council.
Mr Justin Green, of MCD, the concert promoters, rejected the criticism and said that the decision had been based on safety grounds. "Under the circumstances, it was the fairest, the safest and the only option available to us", he said.
All 8,000 tickets for next Wednesday's concert in Dublin were sold out by 10 a.m. yesterday, 14 hours after going on sale. More than 100,000 people are believed to have called the special telephone "hotline" arranged for the sale of the tickets, priced £21 each.
