A Dublin youth who was offered £100 to move a packet of heroin with a street value of some £350,000 was remanded in custody for sentence on May 17th.

John Cunningham (17), Kylemore Road, Ballyfermot, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to having the heroin for sale or supply on July 27th, 1998. Judge Frank O'Donnell was told that a chance encounter with a motorcycle garda led to the heroin being seized.

Prosecuting counsel, Mr Fergal Foley, read a statement Cunningham made in which he said that someone he did not wish to name had offered him £100 to take the packet from the "California Hills" near Drumfin Road, Ballyfermot, to a street there.

Garda Kieran Nolan, whom he knew, arrived on a motorcycle and he dropped the package.
