A youth has been jailed for 2 1/2 years for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl in a laneway. Judge Cyril Kelly in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court said the assault had been catastrophic for the victim, who had been forcibly restrained on the ground. The youth from Tallaght, Dublin, pleaded guilty to committing the offence on September 9th, 1995. He was almost 16 years old at the time and had no previous convictions.
Mr Michael O'Higgins, defending, said if there was anything his client could do to undo the damage done to the victim he would undertake to do so. He was totally unaware of the effect it had on his victim until the reports came.
