A Tallaght youth on horseback who charged at a garda and later threatened him with an iron bar was jailed for 10 months at Rathfarnham District Court yesterday.
Noel Monks (19), of Cushlawn Park, was sentenced for an assault on Garda Frank Lee at Heatherview Park, Tallaght, on March 13th.
The court heard gardai received a call at 1.45 a.m. that youths were riding horses around the area. Most of the youths, including Monks, refused to move on and circled the Garda jeep for about 15 minutes, jeering and taunting gardai. Monks charged Garda Lee and a struggle broke out to arrest him. In the jeep the defendant began swinging an iron bar with a hook at the end of it.
