A PSYCHIATRIC assessment of a youth who allegedly sexually assaulted a woman after she asked him for directions is to be funded by the legal aid board, a court has heard.
Judge Elizabeth MacGrath was told yesterday at the Children’s Court in Dublin that an agreement had been reached over who would pay for the assessment to be carried out by a psychiatrist from the Granada Institute for sexual offenders.
The now 18-year-old has been charged with the sexual assault of the woman, in south Dublin, on a date last March.
More charges were also brought for assault causing harm, possessing a knife, robbery and false imprisonment of a male, at Seapoint beach, in Blackrock, in south Dublin, on May 16th last. He was a juvenile at the time and had been refused bail due to the seriousness of the allegations.
The defence is seeking a specialist assessment as part of a request that the case not be sent to the Circuit Court, which has broader sentencing powers.
Judge MacGrath adjourned the case for four weeks.
