The RUC last night began a murder inquiry following the discovery of a youth's body in a shallow grave in a forest park five miles from Ballykelly, Co Derry, writes George Jackson.

Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan said detectives were considering the possibility the body is that of Mr Jonathan Cairns (18), who was reported missing from his Loughamore Road home in Ballykelly yesterday morning. The body was discovered in Loughamore Forest Park after blood-stained clothes belonging to Mr Cairns were found in the grounds of Glasnevy Special Care School near his home. Detectives do not believe the murder was sectarian.
