Dublin Children's Court has declined jurisdiction in the case of a teenager who is accused of attempting to rob a foreign national on the DART at knifepoint.
In an outline of the alleged facts of the case, the court was told that the alleged injured party had been travelling on the DART on the night of February 2nd last.
As the train approached Malahide station, the teenager (17) put a penknife to the man's throat and demanded that he hand over his mobile phone.
However as the man was reaching for his phone, the train stopped at Malahide station and the teenager jumped out when the doors opened, the court heard.
Judge Michael Connellan said that the case was too serious to be heard in the Children's Court. Refusing jurisdiction he held that the boy should be sent forward for trial in the Circuit Court.
The teenager was remanded on bail until July 3rd pending the preparation and service of a book of evidence in the case.
