A youth has been served with a book of evidence and sent forward for trial for assaulting a Polish national who was left scarred for life after a gang attack in Dublin.
The 17-year-old had been charged at the Dublin Children’s Court with assault causing harm and violent disorder, in Fairview, on May 30th, 2010.
Earlier, it had been held that he should be tried at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, which has wider sentencing powers. After a book of evidence was served on the youth yesterday Judge Ann Ryan ordered that he was to returned for trial at the Circuit Court. The teen was remanded on continuing bail.
At an earlier hearing to determine the teen’s trial venue, Det Garda Sinéad Green told the Children’s Court that the victim suffered cuts and bruising and was left with a permanent facial scar.
It was alleged the attack began when a teenage girl had asked him for a cigarette and when he said he had none, she swung a tree branch at him. A group of youths then attacked him, it was alleged.
