The US Secretary of State Mr Colin Powell is to meet Yugoslav President Mr Vojislav Kostunica in Washington tomorrow in the highest-level contact between the two countries since the ouster of Slobodan Milosevic, a State Department official said today.
The meeting will come as the Yugoslav leader continues his first trip to the United States since taking power from Mr Milosevic in October.
The official said Mr Kostunica was also likely to have meetings at the White House with senior officials including national security adviser Ms Condoleezza Rice.
Mr Kostunica has often voiced disagreement with Washington, notably over its policy regarding Kosovo which has been under UN administration since June 1999.
However, Belgrade's relations with Washington have picked up since Mr Milosevic's ouster and subsequent arrest on charges of corruption and abuse of power.
