Mexico City - The rebel caravan, which attracted one million observers on its two-week trek across Mexico, has set up camp in the capital's National School of Anthropology. A 24-strong delegation has pledged to remain until an Indian rights bill is passed into law, writes Michael McCaughan.

The Zapatista leaders met members of Mexico's multiparty congressional commission yesterday in advance of their address to parliament later this week.

"It's time for the Fox and his bosses to look our way," said Sub-commander Marcos, making a veiled reference to Mexico's business leaders, who oppose efforts to grant concessions to the rebel movement.

"Welcome Subcomandante Marcos, welcome Zapatistas, welcome to the political arena," said President Vicente Fox in his weekly radio programme.
