A goal by Zinedine Zidane and a last gasp effort from Steve McManaman gave Real Madrid a valuable 2-0 victory over arch-rivals Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final at the Nou Camp tonight.

The World's most expensive player and the English substitute secured Real's first win at the Barcelona stadium in 19 years.

Zidane curled a powerful shot into the far corner on 55 minutes after Real had hit Barcelona on the break.

Barcelona, led by former Real Madrid midfielder Luis Enrique and Dutch striker Patrick Kluivert, had dominated the first half, but were unable to convert a host of scoring opportunities against a defence-minded Real.

And after weathering the first half storm the eight-times European champions hit the Catalan side with Frenchman Zidane's goal.

Then in the dying moments of the game McManaman, who came on for the last 10 minutes, ran clear on the right and chipped over the goalkeeper.
