Harare - Zimbabwe's government said yesterday it would appoint three additional judges to the Supreme Court in a move the opposition said was a ploy to undermine the independence of the country's judicial body.
The Justice Minister, Mr Patrick Chinamasa, said the addition was meant to help the court cope with increased appeal cases.
The main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) said the government wanted to head off future Supreme Court rulings, including against its drive to compulsorily acquire white farms.
