A report in last Wednesday's edition concerning the decision to award posthumously distinguished service medals (DSM) with honour to four Air Corps crew who died in Tramore, Co Waterford in 1999, referred to the medals as the highest military honour.
The Department of Defence has pointed out that the DSM is the highest award that can be conferred in this case. The highest award that can be given to a member of the Defence Forces is the Military Medal for Gallantry with distinction.
