An article by Dr Muiris Houston in yesterday’s edition, concerning the misdiagnosis of Melissa Redmond’s baby at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, had some detail inadvertently edited out.
Dr Houston wrote that the principal investigation is an ultrasound scan, usually a transvaginal (internal) scan. Later in pregnancy abdominal scans are used where the probe is applied to the outside of the tummy.
