A sub-heading over an article in last Saturday’s edition, concerning the Anglo-Irish Treaty, was in error.

It said that the treaty came into being on December 6th, 1921. In fact, the treaty stated that the Irish Free State would be established one year from the date of signing if the treaty was ratified by Dáil Éireann and the British parliament.

An article in last Monday’s edition, concerning Cardinal Brady, said that the “then Fr Seán Brady, made Mr Boland swear an oath of secrecy as a teenager in May 1975 not to tell anybody except designated priests about the abuse carried out by (Fr Brendan) Smyth”.

The Catholic Communications Office has pointed out that while he witnessed the statement of Brendan Boland at that time, the then Fr Brady’s role was as note-taker in the Church inquiry team.
