An Editorial on September 4th stated that then minister for justice Patrick Cooney joined then taoiseach Liam Cosgrave in voting against a Bill in 1974 that would have decriminalised the use of contraceptives by married couples.
In fact, Mr Cooney voted for the Bill. It also incorrectly stated that a free vote was last allowed in the Dáil in 1974. There was a free vote on the Bill dealing with the divorce referendum of 1986.
