Sir, - With regard to Miss Ni Cearnaig's letter (February 14th) on the subject of national graves and 1798, as secretary of a small group who concern themselves with 1798 monuments, I can confirm that the idea for a memorial at Scullabogue came from a member of the Diaspora, who offered to contribute towards it.
I agree with her - what a pity there are not more memorials containing something akin to an apology. What a pity Miss Ni Cearnaig is moved to snipe at this one because there are no others - yet. - Yours, etc.,
