Councils: water the young street trees

Root-and-branch reform

Sir, – In line with the EPA’s warning that “Ireland unlikely to meet climate targets” (News, June 1st), can more be done by the local authorities to keep the young trees they have planted alive? They are doing a good job in planting the trees but they do not seem to have any system of watering them, so unfortunately many of the recently planted street trees are dying due to lack of water. We cannot rely on the rain to keep these young trees alive. – Yours, etc,

CONOR FITZPATRICK,

Blackrock,

Co Dublin.
