Councils: water the young street trees

Root-and-branch reform

Sir, – I note Conor Fitzpatrick’s letter regarding the watering of young trees planted by the council (June 2nd).

The tree in the street in front of my house is a little further along in the council’s process: it died off a few years back and the council has cut it to a two-foot stump and abandoned it.

In my youth a school teacher would grade this level of performance a “fail”, but these days, that’s called a “partially achieves”. – Yours, etc,

CONOR KENNEDY,
