Sir, – Harry Crosbie suggests building houses on oil tank farms in Dublin Port which, he says, are not in use (Letters, June 18th).
These tank farms are very much in use and, at current levels, handle more than one-third of all of the country’s energy imports. Given the slow progress being made to decarbonise, these tank farms will continue in use for decades yet.
More homes are needed far sooner than that and the solution to this challenge lies neither in Dublin Port nor, as Mr Crosbie also suggests, in infilling “the very shallow mudflats at Clontarf”. – Yours, etc,
