Raspberries

The berry idea

Sir, – Being partial to some juicy raspberries as part of my daily fruit intake, I popped into a local Tesco to procure a punnet. I was about to grab my usual 150 gram pack, produced in Portugal, when I spotted an Irish option alongside. Keen to do my bit for the economy, I was about to buy Irish but then came the anomaly. For €1.95, one could purchase a 150 gram punnet of Portuguese fruits, while the same amount of money will get you 125 grams of Irish raspberries. Discussions ensued with a most pleasant and helpful supervisor but we both concluded that there was no logic to be found. She then went on to speak about bananas and I went on my merry way, thinking how perfectly apposite. – Yours, etc,
